RECIPES
Two oldies-but-goodies this week, in honor of all the leafy greens you're getting! We rarely have a meal without salad, and we rarely have a salad without this dressing. It's a simple and versatile recipe, and works with basically any salad. (Simple Balsamic Vinaigrette)
I also wanted to re-direct you all to my all-time favorite way to prepare chard. Sauteed with ginger and garlic, it makes a quick and delicious side dish without heating up the kitchen, a necessity in this weather! (Swiss Chard with Ginger & Garlic)
Finally, I know some of you are wondering what on earth is a garlic scape? (I also know that some of you are tired of hearing me explain what a garlic scape is every year.) Scapes are the flower stalks that hardneck garlic plants send up in June, and they can be harvested and used in a variety of ways; in fact, anywhere you'd use regular cloves of garlic. Here's an old pesto recipe (Katie's Garlic Scape Pesto), a new pesto recipe (ParsleyScape Pesto), a hummus recipe (Hummus with Garlic Scapes), and a post from awhile ago containing some further ideas for scape use.
