Full share:
- 2 heads lettuce
- 1/4 lb lettuce mix
- 1/4 lb arugula
- 2 bunches chard
- 1 qt snap peas
- 1 lb summer squash
- 1 head lettuce
- 1/4 lb arugula
- 1 bunch chard
- 1 pt snap peas
- 1/2 lb summer squash
Take as many of these as you'd like.
- 2014 garlic - last week for this! Still in pretty good shape, and very flavorful.
- Garlic scapes - basically garlic in a different, more spring-like form, these flower stalks tide us over until the garlic harvest in July. See last week's post for some cooking ideas.
RECIPES
Since time began, farm share recipients all over the world have been asking the eternal question: what do I do with all this chard?! Fortunately, the blog Tea & Cookies has the answer (or one of them, anyway): Swiss Chard Tzatziki. In a word: delicious. Tzatziki (traditionally a Mediterranean cucumber-yogurt dip), along with a few crunchy snap peas, pita chips, and white wine, is a perfect summertime almost-meal; and now we can enjoy it even though it's not yet cucumber season!
And isn't it exciting to have arugula? This peppery green is another farm share staple, but that's just because it's really, really good (the flea beetles think so too). Bulgur & Arugula Salad is based on a principle that pretty much sums up how cooking works in our house, especially during the summer months: pick a green, pick a grain, add some other veggies, dried fruit, nuts and cheese, and dress with a vinaigrette. I will say that we often also add a legume and/or bacon, but that's just us.
